Orient Partners - your link to Asia

Lewis Jones is the founder and Managing Director of Orient Partners and serves on the Executive Committee of the Australia China Business Council. With hands-on experience working in small, medium and large (multilingual) organisations across the private and public sectors in Australia, China and the Pacific, he is an invaluable resource to support your market entry or product growth strategy in Asia.

Having completed studies in Australia and Taiwan, he has lived and worked in China for a decade, gaining unique experience in sourcing, procurement and international trade.  Lewis speaks Mandarin, making him an asset in business negotiations.

Lewis has worked along-side Chinese engineers and has visited and negotiated directly with  sources and purchasers across Asia in a range of industries and products, from mining equipment to makeup. He has a unique ability to understand markets and products quickly, and this combined with his nuanced understanding of Asian business practices means he can provide clear advice to clients.

Lewis understands how critical it is to be at the forefront of international trade. He visits Asia regularly with clients and is comfortable in Chinese-speaking offices. Importantly, Lewis has developed an extensive network of contacts, including manufacturers, distributors, and key service providers throughout Asia.

Lewis is very passionate about the beautiful produce in the Canberra region and developing export opportunities for local businesses who wish to export to China and beyond. He sees so much opportunity in this region and is excited to work with the business community to connect with Asia.

The Australia China Business Chamber - ACT

Situated in Australia’s capital, the ACBC ACT is committed to building closer links between the Australian Capital Territory, Australia and the People’s Republic of China.

Founded on 3 March 2016, the Australian Capital Territory Branch is the newest Branch of the Australia China Business Council. The launch of the ACT Branch took place at the National Press Club and was attended by the ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr and Minister Cai Wei, Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Australia and The Hon John Brumby, National President of Australia China Business Council.

As Australia’s capital city, Canberra has enjoyed a strong and enduring relationship with China, epitomised by the Canberra-Beijing Sister City relationship formalised in 2000. Canberra has also played host to a number of high profile Chinese delegations including Chinese Presidents Xi Jinping, Hu Jintao and Jiang Zemin. Most recently, Canberra hosted the official signing ceremony of the China Australia Free Trade Agreement, signed by China's Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng and then Prime Minister Tony Abbott in July 2015.

Canberra is the site of ACBC’s premier event, the annual Canberra Networking Day. This members only event is a unique opportunity for members to meet with senior government ministers including participation from the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Trade Ministers.

Branch Objectives:

  • Promote stronger business links between the Australian Capital Territory and the People’s Republic of China;
  • To provide opportunities for our members to develop networks and collaborate with their peers;
  • To provide members with useful market data to enhance their China engagement;
